This blog is only partially about head lice. It’s really about starting the New Year off with positivity and speaking to the young, middle and older aged girls and women out there. This blog is about the meaning of GIRL POWER!
Women really can have it all. People try to say we can’t. But I am proof that we can.
I own three companies – the corporate Lice Ladies clinics, the Lice Ladies product line and the Franchise company. I have two full time step children I am raising – one 18-year-old girl, Jessica, and one 8-year-old boy, Stephen. I consider them mine. I also have one 9-month-old baby boy of my own, David. I have a husband, Sean. I have 2 cats and a dog: Butters, McCuse-Me and Lilly. Is my life crazy and busy? YES!!! But I decided that being independent didn’t mean that I couldn’t have a marriage or children. I also decided that I would do with my life career what I wanted to do with it…which was to own and grow a company. I’m a science nerd so creating my companies was and is a wonderful adventure. I also sing on the side for fun…I used to be a Billboard recording artist and I still write and record music with one of my besties for fun. I have another bestie as my co-owner. The three of us used to be in a girl’s r&b pop group before my Billboard days. It was fun…really really fun. We’ve all been besties for over 20 years.
So many girls these days get caught up in either: being independent and alone and forgoing any personal life so they can prove that they aren’t old fashioned. OR…. Being co-dependent on a dude or partner or parents and not getting up off their a$$ and getting their education or a steady job or trade. OR…. being mean girls and cutting each other down instead of building each other up.
So, here’s my thing girls: DON’T BE LAZY. DON’T BE CO-DEPENDENT. DON’T BE AFRAID TO WANT A FAMILY. GET OFF YOUR A$$ AND GO TO WORK. GET YOU EDUCATION. DON’T SETTLE FOR AN IDIOT PARTNER. DON’T BE AFRAID TO SAY NO TO STUPID THINGS. DON’T HAVE KIDS TOO EARLY – WAIT UNTIL YOU HAVE A STABLE PARTNER OR CAREER AND YOU CAN AFFORD TO GIVE THEM SECURITY AND SAFETY. GET A CAREER YOU LOVE. MAKE FRIENDSHIPS THAT LAST. BE KIND. KNOW YOURSELF. RESPECT YOURSELF. FIGURE OUT WHO YOU ARE AND WHAT YOU WANT OUT OF LIFE. THEN GO OUT AND DO IT. LEARN FROM YOUR FAILURES BECAUSE THEY MAKE YOU STRONGER AND SMARTER.
Owning Lice Ladies makes me proud. Employing and empowering women makes me feel like I am making a difference in this world. I make plenty of mistakes, but I try to learn from them. I don’t let them get the best of me. Trying to be a good wife and mother while working my a$$ off and FINDING AND DOING that balance makes my family happy.
Raising Jessica and seeing the things that she goes through as a teenager made me think a lot about this. Whether she ever gets married, has kids, pets, etc. is up to her. I want her to be with someone that makes her happy and compliments her life…NOT COMPLICATES HER LIFE. Why? Because I want Jessica to have a path and career that make her happy and help her live and be an independent, strong, happy, kind, brave, fun woman. I want Jessica to also have hobbies and things to do that bring her creativity out and give her brain that zen that we all need. I want her to be able to take care of herself without extreme struggle one day. I want her to be able to help others along her life path.
I want Stephen and David to accomplish all these things and have a respect for the women in their lives. I want them to find partners in their lives that compliment their lives and love them for the men they are. I can write a whole blog about my boys which I will…but will keep this particular blog pointing to women.
So, let’s all embrace that girl power and what it really means. It’s never too late to start!!! Let’s be kind and strong at the same time. Let’s strive to be examples to our girls so they can in turn, teach the next generation of woman about GIRL POWER!
